Strood Academy tells Year 10 to stay home after another positive Covid-19 case

A secondary school has asked a full year group to stay home after confirming another Covid-19 case.

The decision was taken by Strood Academy in Carnation Road this morning following a positive case among its Year 10 pupils.

In an email this morning principal Numera Anwar, who took up the post earlier this month, asked parents and carers to keep students in the year group home.

The academy said it was working with the Department for Education and Public Health England and would be sending all Year 10 pupils home as an "immediate precaution".

A spokesman for the Leigh Academies Trust, which runs the school, said: "I can confirm we have had a confirmed case in Year 10 and as a precaution, we have asked the whole year to stay at home today whilst we identify those that will need to self-isolate for 14 days."

It comes less than a week after the academy sent 118 pupils and seven staff members home to isolate after a teacher and pupil in year 11 test positive for Covid-19.
