Rochester 'axe' incident: Police make fifth arrest

Police have made a fifth arrest after an incident allegedly involving an axe in Rochester last week.

Officers were called to Warren Wood Road at just before 1.30pm on Tuesday after an alleged dispute over scrap metal from used windows.

Four men were arrested on the same day. Two of the men were charged the following day. John Harmer, 22, of Binney Road, Allhallows, Rochester, and 34-year-old Phillip Alan Jackson, of Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, are both accused of affray.

Harmer and Jackson, who is a Supaglazing employee, are due to enter their plea at Medway Magistrates' Court on July 5.

Two men were granted bail. Kenneth John Reader, 41, of, Whyman Avenue, Chatham, was later charged with affray and possession of offensive weapon. A fourth man, who has not been named, was released without charge.

A fifth man was arrested on Sunday. Neil William John Taylor, 31, of Shipwrights Avenue, Chatham, has been charged with affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

Reader and Taylor are due to enter their plea at Medway Magistrates' Court on July 16.
