Firefighters have highlighted the importance of having a working smoke alarm after a small fire in the home of an elderly man.

The fire started after food was left on the hob at the address in Strood and a pump was sent to the scene at 1.20pm yesterday (Monday).

No-one was injured and no serious damage was caused.
