A spokesperson explained that after the man was taken into custody, officers became concerned for his wellbeing.

“It turned out that the male was suffering from mental health issues and had not taken his medication,” said the spokesperson in a statement.

“The appropriate authorities were alerted and the male was offered a space at a place of safety, he was transported there and is now receiving the care that he needs.”

This comes as a KentOnline investigation found that reports of indecent exposure on trains across the country have risen by 62% in the last five years.

A Freedom of Information request to British Transport Police (BTP), sent by the Local Democracy Reporting Service, revealed 183 reports of indecent exposure on trains across the UK in 2023 – up from 158 in 2022 and 113 in 2019.

Eleven of the 183 cases were reported in Kent.
