Lorries parked in Rochester targeted by thieves as police question four people from Essex and London

A gang of suspected thieves have been arrested after lorries parked on an industrial estate were broken in to.

Police are today questioning four people - three men and a woman from Essex and London - after the incident in Rochester this morning.

Officers stopped two cars after a group of people were reportedly seen taking items from the backs of the trucks in Laker Road - alongside Rochester Airport - at 1.15am.

When they arrived, officers saw a group fleeing the area and saw the cars driving off at speed.

A spokesman said: "Traffic officers stopped a car, suspected to be one of the two vehicles, near the Four Elms Roundabout and detained 26-year-old man from Canning Town and a 35-year-old man from Hornchurch on suspicion of theft.

"Patrols in Gravesend located a second car, suspected to be involved in the offence, travelling in the town and stopped it on the A2.

"A 44-year-old woman from Chingford and a 46-year-old man from Buckhurst Hill were subsequently detained on suspicion of theft."

The woman and 26-year-old man have since been bailed until September 25. The other two men have been bailed until September 26.
