Fort Amherst is putting the finishing touches to its Halloween horrors tours

Halloween is just over a week away and Fort Amherst is busy putting the finishing touches to its horror tours.

I summoned up my courage and went along for a preview, and after being strangled by a pirate, clawed at by a zombie and bitten by a vampire, I can safely say Fort Amherst’s Halloween Horror tours are not for the faint-hearted.

The Chatham fort’s spooky tours have been running for 30 years and it’s easy to see why they are growing in popularity.

The tunnels and rooms are split into different themes and are decorated accordingly with actors lurking around corners, in the walls and above doorways ready to scare visitors.

You are led through the tunnels by a guide but as we entered the labyrinth I managed to lose the rest of my tour group in the dark.

After I caught up we were led to the entrance of the tunnels. Once inside the nightmare began...

Tickets cost between £12.50 and £15. Over 16s only.
