An inquest into the deaths of a mum and dad who died in a horrific car crash will open today.

Lindsay Slater, 30, and her partner Tom Gregory, 29, were with their daughters Mae-Louise, seven, and Hollie, four, when their car left the road and smashed into a sign.

Their silver Peugeot landed in a field off Peninsula Way, Hoo, on the afternoon of April 6 as the family returned to their home in Cliffe Road, Strood, after a day out.

Lindsay was pronounced dead at the scene while Tom was airlifted to a London hospital, but died the next day.

Passers-by managed to get the girls out and waited for the ambulance to arrive to take them to Medway Maritime Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. They are now being cared for by relatives.

No other vehicles were believed to be involved and conditions were good on a bright afternoon.

The inquest into the deaths will be held at Maidstone and will be adjourned for a fuller hearing later.

The police inquiry into the accident is continuing. Anyone with information, particularly anyone who saw the car before the incident, is urged to phone 01622 798538.
