Lifeboat crews leave on a job

Four anglers and a boat owner stranded on a leaking vessel had to be rescued by a lifeboat crew.

The 36ft boat, called the Julie Sue, had grounded at East Hoo Creek.

The RNLI's Sheerness all weather lifeboat, the George and Ivy Swanson, was launched at 11.13am on Saturday, along with the RNLI Sheerness inshore lifeboat, Eleanor.

A mechanic from the crew, Andy Matthews, was placed onboard to assess the damage. He found only a minor leak in the boat and a bilge pump keeping up with water being taken onboard.

The George and Ivy Swanson escorted the boat to Gillingham while Eleanor returned to station.

Both crews had returned by 1.18pm.
