Coach crash in Jeffery Street car park, Gillingham, leaves windscreen smashed and wall destroyed

A young man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after a dramatic coach crash put a person in hospital.

The vehicle and car collided and coach smashed through a brick wall into Jeffery Street car park, Gillingham just before 4am.

Emergency services were called to the scene and police arrested a 21-year-old man from Gillingham on suspicion of drink-driving.

He remains in custody.

Paramedics also took one person to Medway Maritime Hospital, in Windmill Road, Gillingham, for treatment.

The heavily damaged coach was pictured in the car park with broken bricks surrounding it.

A silver estate car, left with a crumpled bonnet, was abandoned at the roadside.

The road was closed to ensure public safety and the scene was clear by about 7.20am.
