Graham Fitzgerald no longer suspect in flat murder of Steve Berry, found dead in Kinross Close, Chatham

A man arrested on suspicion of murdering his next-door neighbour has been released without charge.

Graham Fitzgerald, 47, was taken into police custody on July 12 last year, after finding Steve Berry dead in his flat in Kinross Close, Chatham and calling 999.

Mr Fitzgerald, who was friends with Mr Berry, 59, was arrested and questioned for three days.

However, he was released on bail pending further inquiries and almost immediately told the Medway Messenger he was determined to clear his name.

At the time he said he was exhausted, destitute and not allowed to return to his home.

Police have now revealed Mr Fitzgerald has been released without charge and is no longer a suspect.

A 28-year-old woman of no fixed address and a 29-year-old Rochester man arrested on suspicion of murder have had their bail extended until April 20.

Police have also now revealed they arrested a 26-year-old woman in September, on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in relation to the investigation and she too has been bailed to the same date.
