Man extradited from Italy to appear in court after Blue Bell Hill assault on two police officers

A man suspected of assaulting two police officers has been flown back to Britain from Italy.

Eglant Lleshi, of Cairo Montenotte, Italy, was escorted onto a plane in Milan by British officers, and returned to the UK yesterday.

The 28-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court today charged with attempted grievous bodily harm of a police officer, assaulting a police officer occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, dangerous driving and possession of a class A drugs with intent to supply.

It incident is alleged to have happened on September 17 2020.

Three constables were on patrol in Common Road near Blue Bell Hill, Maidstone when they stopped to speak to the driver of a stationary Ford Kuga.

While completing some checks, it is alleged the suspect reversed the car, hitting the police vehicle and two of the officers.

The car was later recovered in Pilgrims Way near Eccles and a quantity of cocaine was seized.

Mr Lleshi appeared in court today where he was remanded in custody to next appear at a hearing before Maidstone Crown Court on May 5.
