The incident happened in Snodhurst Avenue, in Chatham, at about 3.15pm, when a man turned up to view the car, a silver Mercedes, which was advertised for sale.

It is believed an Asian man pretended to be interested in buying the car, but as he was having a look around it, jumped in, locked the doors and sped off.

In the process he managed to run into the owner and hurt his foot.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "Officers are investigating a report of a vehicle theft from an address in Chatham.

"It is reported that a man arranged to view a car which had been advertised for sale, but then drove off in the car.

"He is described as being an Asian man, 25 to 30 years-old, 5ft 4in and of slim build.

"The owner was not seriously hurt, he had some bruising to his foot but didn’t require medical attention."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Kent Police on 101, quoting crime reference XY/16215/12.
