Man attacked in Rochester High Street left with bleed on the brain in hospital

A young man has been left unable to talk and with a bleed on his brain after being punched in what's been described as an unprovoked attack.

The 28-year-old was set upon by three men in Rochester high street in the early hours of Saturday morning while on a night out with his brother.

He was taken to hospital for an injury to his head after a single blow floored him and smashed his head into the pavement.

Sam Barguss, who lives with him in the town, explained how they were near The Jolly Knight and Kings Head hotel when the trio approached his little brother.

One of them then allegedly punched him knocking him off his feet, which his older sibling says could leave him needing surgery.

"I was in the high street with my brother just after midnight and a young guy in his early 20s, unprovoked, punched my brother in the face," Mr Barguss said.

"He hit the floor and slammed his head off the pavement and now has a bleed on the brain and may need surgery.

"He's unaware of his surroundings and is unable to talk."

'Please help bring the guy who did this to justice,' Sam Barguss

Now, Mr Barguss and his family are appealing for anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

The 30-year-old added: "Please help bring the guy who did this to justice. There were three guys there and someone has to know one of them.

"Our whole family has been affected and we just want him to get better."

Mr Barguss says early cognitive tests carried out on his brother's brain have come back positive but added he has been drifting in and out of consciousness in hospital since being admitted.

Police spokesman Steve Knight said: "Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing. There have been no arrests."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call 01634 792209 quoting reference 46/151410/20.
