A man had to be rescued by firefighters after he got stuck climbing though his bedroom window in the early hours of this morning.

The man in his 20s had clambered up to the roof of his home in Littlebourne Avenue, Twydall, to get into his attic room.

But after diving in through the window head first he got his leg trapped in the hinge and was suspended in mid air, hanging by his foot from his bedroom roof.

It is believed his mother called the firefighters when she heard his struggles at around 3.30am.

One of the crew called out to help said: "This was a young man who had obviously been drinking and came home late. I don't know if he couldn't get in through the front door but he preceded to try and get in through the window in the attic.

"We lifted him up to take the weight of his trapped leg and managed to release his foot.

"He was in quite a lot of pain and the ambulance was also called."
