Gillingham man Andrew Grindlay and Rainham man Dirk Peterson charged after takeaway staff 'racially abused'

Two men have appeared in court today to deny a racially or religiously aggravated public order offence at a Gillingham takeaway.

Kent Police officers were called at 8pm on Sunday to reports of a disturbance at the Perfect Fried Chicken in the High Street.

It was reported staff at the takeaway were allegedly racially abused by two men and threatened with violence.

Andrew Grindlay, 46, of Kingswood Road, Gillingham; and Dirk Peterson, 45, of Ivy Street, Rainham, were jointly charged with a public order offence - racially/religiously aggravated fear/provocation of violence by words/writing.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates' Court today, where they both pleaded not guilty.

The pair have been granted conditional bail and will next appear at the same court on Monday, November 25.
