The Princess Royal will visit Gillingham to officially open MidKent College’s Medway campus later this month.

The inauguration ceremony, set to take place on Thursday, March 25, will see Her Royal Highness take a tour of the new £86 million campus on Medway Road, before meeting some of the college’s staff and students.

As well as viewing student activities within a number of college departments, Princess Anne will also be invited to view archive photographs taken of The Duke of Edinburgh when he officially opened the college’s Fort Horsted site in Chatham in 1955. The event will end with the unveiling of a plaque to mark the building’s official inauguration.

Medway campus principal, Sue McLeod, said: “We are delighted that Her Royal Highness has agreed to officially open the campus and thoroughly look forward to welcoming her here later this month.”

The Medway campus was first opened to students in September 2009. It replaced the college’s former sites at Horsted in Chatham, and City Way, Rochester.
