The 52-year-old, of Wollaston Close, Gillingham, remained unmoved in the dock as the judge told him: "These courts regularly sees cases of serious sexual offences against children but some are truly awful in their nature. This is such a one.

"All too often victims are left utterly broken by their ordeal.

"She will be feeling the consequences of your offending for the rest of her life."

He added: "Someone doing what you did would be regarded as a monster."

After sending Justin to the cells to begin his sentence, Judge Robert Lazarus addressed the victim who was listening to the case by video link.

He told her: "I really wish that you will have a full recovery."

Maidstone Crown Court heard the victim later used drugs and drink as a coping mechanism "to mitigate the emotional trauma she suffered at his hands".

The judge revealed how in Justin's defence statement – a legal document made by defendants prior to trial – he accused the victim of making false statements about others.

Prosecutor Daniel Stevenson told how that when his mobile phone was forensically examined, internet search terms indicating a sexual interest in young female children were found.

The court heard how Justin had later "confessed" by making a wall plaque, outlining his attack.

He had admitted charges of rape, assault on a girl under 13 and assault by penetration.

After the hearing, the judge took the unusual decision to urge the victim to seek legal advice about how to sue her attacker for compensation.

Police Staff Investigator, Luke Grimmett, who led on the case said: "This prison term reflects the gravity and horror Justin’s victim was put through. I want to commend her bravery in reporting his offending and helping to ensure he is held accountable for his actions.

"His continued offending over a number of years has left a lasting impact on the victim and I hope that today’s sentence helps to give her some closure. I also hope this case sends out a clear message that we will do everything in our power to identify offenders and bring them to justice."
