Revamp of Splashes leisure centre in Rainham set to get the nod

A multi-million pound redevelopment of a sports centre is expected to be approved.

Proposals to replace the much-loved former Splashes leisure centre at Cozenton Park, Rainham, are due to be discussed by councillors next week.

The project is expected to cost £17.85 million. Demolition of the existing pool began in January.

The plans put forward by Medway Council include a training pool for lane swimming and lessons, as well as a fun pool with flume, wave ball pool, and beach area.

There will also be a fitness gym, room for exercise classes and children’s parties, and family and accessible changing rooms.

The designs also include electric charging parking spaces, which is part of the authority's climate change and carbon neutral ambitions.

A public exhibition of the plans was held last month and it is expected the centre will open in summer 2024.

Planning officers have recommended approval for the plans.

The planning committee will make their decision next Wednesday.
