Ex-Gillingham resident Leslie Leathley extradited from New Zealand to face child sex offences

A 70-year-old man was extradited from New Zealand after being charged with child sex offences.

The ex-Gillingham resident appeared in Medway Magistrates' Court today charged with 10 counts of child sex offences committed in the 1970s and 80s.

All of the alleged offences were committed in Medway.

Leslie Leathley previously lived in Wellington Road but has been living in New Zealand.

He was handed over to Kent Police officers at Auckland International Airport yesterday.

Then he was flown back to the UK via Hong Kong and formally arrested following his arrival at Heathrow Airport this morning.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

Leathley was bailed and is due at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, October 4.
