Opening date for Wetherspoons in Rainham confirmed

Work on a long-awaited Wetherspoons is set to begin next month.

The Railway, next to the station in Station Road, Rainham, is set to reopen under the banner on September 24.

Construction work will start on Monday, April 8.

Councillors gave the plans to reopen the pub the go-ahead in May 2017, and JD Wetherspoon has now confirmed how much it is investing in the site.

Wetherspoons spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We are aiming to start development work on the site within the next few months.

“There will be £2 million investment and the creation of 50 jobs.

“The development project will take approximately four months.

“We believe that people in Rainham will welcome a Wetherspoon pub in the town and hopefully it will act as a catalyst for further investment in the area.”

Plans to reopen the pub were announced in 2017 and readers of KentOnline were able to vote on a new name.
