Chatham paedophile Lee Morgan found guilty of abusing two children

Morgan, of Silverweed Road, Chatham, became animated as the prosecutor addressed the jury towards the end of his trial at Maidstone Crown Court after claiming a fellow inmate at Elmley Prison on Sheppey was “eavesdropping” from outside.

He was appearing via video link due to an outbreak of Covid-19 at the site.

The jury was asked to leave the courtroom and Morgan told the judge he didn't want fellow prisoners to know details of the offences, saying he feared his life would be in danger.

Prison officials later explained to court officials the only person in the special suite was a cleaner, who was then asked to leave the area.

The volume on his TV screen was also reduced but as prosecutor Vivian Walters continued, Morgan began shaking his head and then stormed out before refusing to return.

The case was then concluded in Morgan’s absence.

Hours later the jury returned and convicted him of sexually assaulting two children – some of the offences dating back before 2000.

He was found guilty of eight indecent assaults, three charges of child indecency and three of sex assault of a child.

Judge Julian Smith adjourned sentencing until October 12 after ordering the preparation of reports detailing what dangers he may pose in the future.

But he ruled Morgan should appear in person when he is sentenced.
