The crash happened on a one-way stretch of road outside Strood Conservative Club at about 12.20pm.

An eyewitness reporting it has "totalled" the building's porch.

A police spokesman said: "No injuries have been reported, however a road closure was enforced due to the carriageway becoming obstructed.

"Damage is also reported to have been caused to a nearby property.

The scene had been cleared by around 3.30pm and enquiries into the incident are ongoing."

Petra West, who lives in nearby Roach Street, said she heard an "almighty bang" and rushed outside to see what had happened.

She says a father and son, aged approximately six or seven, were in the BMW at the time of the crash.

"I was just getting dressed and I heard an almighty bang and knew straight away it was a car accident," she said.

"I ran to the top of the road and that's when I saw the accident.

"The officer was out of his car and had come straight over to the father and son that were in the other car, making sure they were all right.

"The other car's gone through the Conservative Club porch and totalled that."

Miss West, 42, said a number of other neighbours rushed outside to lend a hand and offer hot beverages to those involved.

"You could see they were all in total shock - the police officer, the gentleman, and the son," she said.

"We did offer the officer a sweet tea, but he was trying to make sure the father and son were OK

"He was doing his best at the scene until somebody else turned up.

"Critical care turned up and then an ambulance turned up and police started blocking off the road."
