The structure over Bryant Road has been blocked between Stanhope Road and Gun Lane.

The road was closed by police while assessments to find out the level of damage were carried out.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "The incident happened at around 11.15am and involved the racking on the roof of a white panel van jamming the vehicle under the structure.

"The van was unstuck and there was no damage to the bridge or delays to trains."

A police spokesman added: "An officer attended along with Kent Fire and Rescue Service and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was freed by 2.41pm."
