Riverside flats plan for Grays of Chatham Used Car Centre off High Street

More riverside flats could be on the way after plans to build on a former garage were submitted to Medway Council.

Developers are hoping to build 152 apartments on the site of Grays of Chatham Used Car Centre in Chatham High Street.

The plans put forward by Option Two Ltd involve demolishing the pre-existing buildings to build six blocks of up to six storeys.

The project, which is called Borough Wharf Medway and which includes a gym and 52 parking spaces, is due to be considered by Medway Council's planning committee Friday, May 28.

The plans first emerged in December when the applicants submitted an application for a screening opinion for the site.

Matt Etheridge, representative for the applicant, said: “The proposals provide a fantastic opportunity to reinstate the High Street, and better reflect the area’s architectural river front character.

“Designed during the pandemic, Borough Wharf has embraced emerging trends for work-life balance and how the relationship between home and office may change in the future, with an on-site function room and gymnasium being part of our proposals.”

Responses to the proposals can be left on the project's website www.BoroughWharf-Medway.co.uk or on the council's planning portal under reference MC/21/0429.
