Delce Road, Rochester, closed into third week as repairs continue at Elim Pentecostal Church

A road in Rochester will remain closed for a third week as repairs continue on a church.

Ragstone from the front of the Elim Pentecostal Church, in Delce Road, fell off during the early hours of Saturday, February 4.

Some stones came away at about 4.30am after strong winds, with more falling into the road at about 8.30am.

Police closed the road from the junction with King Street and Star Hill, and Medway Council later put a fence up around the church and said the road would be closed for at least a week.

Motorists are being diverted up Star Hill and along The Cut, and the 145 Warren Wood bus has had to be re-routed and is not stopping on any part of Delce Road.

The Grade II listed church was built in 1856.

Contractors started work on its restoration last week, but repairs have not yet been completed and it is expected the road will remain closed for at least the rest of the week.
