It is reported a number of suspects carried out the theft and they made off with cash and fled from the area by car.

The road was temporarily closed off but traffic is now moving

Peter Morris, 73, said: "I was shopping with my wife and I saw the bank was all shut up.

"There were two police cars and two more came flying in with their sirens going.

"There was a security van outside so one can only presume the robbers targeted that."

At present no injuries have been reported and inquiries are ongoing.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to call Kent Police on 01634 792209 quoting 25-0439.
