Man, 21, on bank robbery charges over raids on Co-operative in Dartford and Santander in Gillingham

A young man has been charged in connection with two bank raids in Kent.

Darren Katumba, 21, is accused of attempted robbery at Santander in Gillingham on Friday morning.

He is also charged with robbery at the Co-Operative bank in Hythe Street, Dartford, on Thursday, June 27.

Katumba, of Millard Road, in Deptford, south east London, appeared before Medway Magistrates' Court on Saturday. He was remanded to a later date at a hearing.

He was arrested on Friday, hours after Kent Police were called to Santander in Gillingham High Street.

Officers were called to the branch at 9.45am after reports a man had entered and demanded cash.

The bank's shutters came down and a man left empty-handed.
