It survived a 200-mile trip, won against westerly winds and sailed over the Bristol Channel to cross the Welsh border after setting off almost a year ago.

But time has taken its toll on the charity balloon released last April at a Royal Wedding street party in Medway, leaving the label illegible.

Now finder Rhian Williams, of Rhoose, Wales, wants to reunite it with its owner and is searching for the Medway resident who set off the soar-away success on Friday, April 29, last year.

The 49-year-old discovered the object at the bottom of her garden last week amongst the undergrowth, but rain has worn away the contact information leaving the owner unreachable.

Curious to find who it belonged to Rhian took it over to her parents’ house for help.

Her dad, Alun Jones, said: “We were very surprised when she told us about it. It could have been there for quite a long time and it travelled a long way from Medway, especially because the wind blows towards the east.

"We’d like to find where it came from, but can’t read the contact details.”

The label reads: “As one of only three street parties in Medway, celebrating the Royal Wedding 2011, we organised a charity balloon race for the Macmillan Cancer Support Charity.
