Rush hour crashes cause delays in Strood and Gillingham

A four-car crash caused tailbacks at the Medway Tunnel.

The incident happened in rush hour around 8.40am on Vanguard Way, Strood, today.

It involved a Citroen C2, Citroen C3, Vauxhall Astra and another vehicle.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Two of the vehicles need to be recovered because they are badly damaged.

"One of the lanes is blocked between the tunnel and the petrol station.

“No one was injured in the incident.”

Witnesses said traffic stretched back to the Wainscott Bypass.

Police were also called to Lower Rainham Road in Gillingham this morning.

A teenager suffered leg injuries after his Cagiva Mito motorbike was in collision with a Mercedes in Lower Rainham Road, Gillingham at 8.50am.

The driver of the car was unhurt.

The road was blocked for a short time but a spokesman for Kent Police said traffic was moving again by 9.45am.
