In the email, deputy head teacher Emma Horstrup said: "A parent has let us know that her child was accosted by a man yesterday as she was walking past Twydall School on her way home from school.

"He is described as an older man with grey hair, wearing grey trousers and a blue jumper.

"We have instructed form tutors to remind students of stranger danger in terms of never approaching a vehicle or a person even if called over, and to move to an open space, "yell and tell" and find another adult if possible.

"They should let trusted adults and parents know immediately of the incident.

"We ask that parents and carers reinforce this message too and remind children not to use their phones intently when walking at the expense of being aware of the traffic and other dangers around them."

Mrs Horstrup confirmed the child is safe and is being supported by the grammar school in Pump Lane, Rainham, and by parents.

Kent Police was called at 4.15pm on Tuesday afternoon to a report of a suspicious incident in Twydall Lane.

It is alleged a man made inappropriate comments towards a teenage girl who was walking in the road. The child then ran away and returned home safely.

An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Anyone who may have seen something suspicious is asked to call police on 01634 792209, quoting reference 08-0875.

In October, three Medway schools similarly issued stranger danger warnings after students were approached in the space of one week.

Rainham Mark has been contacted for more information.
