Chatham Grammar School submits expansion plans to Medway Council

A school has submitted plans for a new teaching block which would help it increase student numbers.

Chatham Grammar School could build a two-storey unit for seven classrooms on its site in Rainham Road.

The development would include new toilets and car parking spaces.

If the bid is successful, planning documents show it is hoped the school will increase its sixth form from 136 to 200.

In turn, it would increase teaching staff numbers from 68 to 80.

It is the third time the school has put in an application – the first was objected to by Sport England due to the proposal being sited on a disused part of its playing field.

A second application was rejected due to concerns over the potential impact on trees.

The application is due to be considered by Tuesday, February 11. Search for MC/19/3159 via Medway Council's planning portal.
