Two people rescued after serious crash on M2 between Chatham and Gillingham

Two people had to be rescued from a vehicle after a serious crash closed the M2.

It involved a car and a lorry on the coastbound carriageway close to junctions three and four near Gillingham.

Photos from the scene showed at least seven paramedic vehicles, including three ambulances, three fire engines and several police cars. An air ambulance also attended.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutters and spreaders to remove the doors and roof of the car.

Two trapped casualties were freed from the vehicle before being passed into the care of paramedics.

Both people were taken to a London hospital for further medical attention

There was debris scattered along the hardshoulder and across all three lanes.

A car overturned on the coastbound stretch.

It remained partially closed while arrangements were made to recover the two vehicles and was fully opened around 10pm last night.
