Police speed camera van damaged in collision with speedboat in Cuxton

A police camera van was badly damaged in a collision with a speedboat on the A228 in Cuxton.

Yes you did read that correctly. It's not certain whether any speed restrictions were broken, but the irony limit was smashed to smithereens during the collision at about 9am this morning.

Thankfully no one was hurt in the crash, which happened when a trailer carrying a speedboat is reported to have come loose from a vehicle.

Police say no injuries have been reported and a road closure was briefly enforced to allow for the safe recovery of the involved vehicles.

The driver of the vehicle towing the trailer, a man in his 70s, has been issued with a traffic offence report for failing to maintain the brakes of the trailer.

Twitter user "Ambulance Mike", a paramedic and community education & training officer, posted a picture of the aftermath, adding: "Whoops: Thankfully all staff, officers and public are ok. Speed Boat vs Speed Camera van. I feel for the person having to write this one up."

Kent's Roads Policing Unit added: "Luckily no one was hurt. Trailer broke away crossed incoming traffic luckily missing them and struck our camera van. If this had struck a car it would have entered the passenger compartment. Always make sure you attach break away cables and check your trailer.

"Luckily no injuries occurred to any persons. Driver of the trailer dealt with for offences."
