Police are searching for a man who robbed a chemist this morning and allegedly threatened staff with a hammer while demanding drugs.

The masked raider struck at Fenns Chemist, in Walderslade Village, near Chatham, at around 10am today.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "It was reported a man threatened staff with what is believed to have been a hammer after demanding drugs.

"He left the shop with an amount of prescription medication, heading in the direction of Boxley Road. Staff and customers were unharmed."

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area, with up to five police cars, a dog unit and a forensic team on the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses who saw the robbery.

The offender has been described as a white man, about 30 and with a Scottish accent.

He was wearing a scruffy green jacket, a grey scarf around his face and a dark cap.
