Harlee Pendergast, 18, from Green Lane, Eltham appears in court charged with Mini crash on Medway City Estate

A teenager has appeared in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a car crashed into a group of people on Medway City Estate.

Wearing a grey suit, Harlee Pendergast spoke only to confirm his name, age and address when he appeared at Medway Magistrates Court today.

The 18-year-old from Green Lane, Eltham is charged with four counts of causing injury by dangerous driving and one count of withholding information to obtain motor insurance.

Fifteen bystanders were hurt when the Mini One crashed during a gathering of car enthusiasts on the industrial estate in Strood last year.

The accident happened just after 10.15pm on Friday, September 30. Pendergast was arrested at the scene.

Four men, aged between 20 and 50, were taken to a London hospital with serious injuries including a fractured skull and a fractured spine. They were named in court as Mark Dwyer, Rory Nicholls, Ryan Taylor and Thomas Spriggs.

Pendergast did not enter a plea to any of the charges and the case was adjorned to Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday, April 11.

He was released on bail on the condition not to enter the Medway Towns for any reason.
