M2 queues after traffic built up near Rochester due to man on bridge over River Medway

Police were called to a motorway bridge following an incident involving a distressed man.

Traffic was held on the M2 over the River Medway near Rochester at 2.30pm.

The coastbound carriageway after junction 2 for the A228 for Strood and Rochester was closed for about 45 minutes while police talked to the man.

Cameras showed traffic was at a standstill.

Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Kent Police was called at around 2.30pm to reports of a distressed man on the M2 near Rochester.

"Officers attended and, after closing the coastbound carriageway, they spoke to the man who was later passed to healthcare professionals.

"The carriageway reopened at around 3.15pm."
