Traffic is heavy through the tunnel and up to the Wainscott Bypass.

An eye witness said: "It's just taken me 40 minutes to get from the motorway to the Medway City Estate.

"The queue starts halfway down the link road from the motorway to Four Elms roundabout, and continues all the way to the entrance to the estate.

"The approach road from Strood looked similarly choc-a-bloc."
