There are four caravans and several vehicles in the High Street car park, which is often empty.

It comes after a group of travellers left Beechings Way playing fields in Twydall on Wednesday last week.

There were about 13 caravans on the recreation ground for several days. Medway Council took legal action to evict them.

Travellers have also been spotted in Luton recreation ground in Chatham.

The arrival of the visitors at the green space off Capstone Road led to Sunday league football games being moved to other pitches at the weekend.

Medway Council said it was aware of the travellers in the Rainham car park and legal action was being taken.

Officers will have to go to court to ask for an order telling the travellers to move on or risk legal action.
