Two men charged with conspiring to burgle newsagents in Longfield, Chatham and Rochester

Two men have been charged following a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries across North Kent last month.

Raiders are first reported to have targeted a shop in Station Road, Longfield, on April 13, making off with a quantity of cigarettes.

A further two attempted burglaries took place in Rochester before a newsagent in Chatham High Street had cigarettes stolen during the early hours of April 29.

Trevor Brown, 53, of no fixed address and Robert Downey, 38, of New Road, Chatham, were arrested on the same morning of the Chatham offence and have since been charged with conspiring to commit burglary.

Downey was also charged with one count of possession of cocaine and both men appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on April 30.

Both men are in custody until they appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on May 28.
