'Hoarder' evacuated through window in Rochester as items block the door

A "hoarder" who had become unwell had to be evacuated through his window because his door was blocked by his vast collection of items.

The man had so many belongings fire crews were called to remove him from the house so he could be taken to hospital.

Emergency services arrived at the scene in Cookham Hill in Rochester at 9.30am.

It took two fire crews to get him out the house.

He has been rushed to hospital by ambulance.

A postman, who did not want to be named, said: "The man who lives there is a bit of a hermit."

One resident on the street said: "He had to be removed from the window because there was so much stuff blocking the door."

Emergency service left the scene before 11.30am.

South East Ambulance spokesman Richard Airey said: "We were called out to and attended an incident at a private address."
