M2 services crash van driver remains critical as pair released

A van driver remains in a serious condition at a London hospital after a car being tailed by undercover police crashed into his vehicle at the M2 services.

A 20-year-old man, from Essex, and a 19-year-old woman, from Sheerness, were arrested after collision near Junction 4 at 2.30pm on Saturday, although police could not say what offences were alleged.

They have been released pending further investigation.

The man has also been recalled to prison having breached his probation.

Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct of their car to the proximity of their vehicle to the accident.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw the gold Volvo estate car or black Citroen Belingo van in the minutes before the accident.
