The van damaged a front window of the property and dislodged the brickwork.

Steve Pennell, who lives at the house with his son, said: "I was sitting in the front room watching TV and all of a sudden there was a big crash.

"I got up and went outside to see what had happened."

It is thought the van's handbrake failed while it was parked on a hill opposite.

The 53 year old added: "When the driver was located he was very apologetic, of course it wasn't his fault.

"Luckily it was on a Sunday and no one was walking past, as we usually have a few school children walking along this way.

"Something needs to be done along here, the pavement is very narrow and could be dangerous."

He is now waiting for repairs to be made to the property.

The engineer confirmed the house was safe.

No injuries were reported and the road was closed so the van could be recovered.
