Fire in Lodge Hill Lane in Chattenden, near Rochester treated as suspicious

A fire at derelict properties is being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to Lodge Hill Lane in Chattenden, Hoo, near Rochester just before 6pm yesterday (Wednesday).

Two fire engines were initially sent to the scene, which involved a number of derelict properties.

Villagers were urged to keep windows and doors shut while firefighters tackled the flames, but this advice has since been lifted.

A statement from Kent Fire and Rescue at 8.45pm said more firefighters had joined their colleagues.

It read: “Four fire engines are at the scene and crews continue to make good progress.

“No injuries have been reported, and the cause is not yet known.”

Crews left the scene just before 9.45pm.

In a further update at 9.25pm, the fire service said: “Crews have made good progress to extinguish a fire involving two derelict properties in Lodge Hill Lane in Chattenden, Rochester, and are dampening down remaining hotspots.

“Smoke in the area has now reduced, and people living or working nearby are no longer advised to keep windows and doors closed.

“No injuries have been reported, and the cause is being treated as suspicious.”
