Woman punched in the face in Bryant Street, Chatham, before being hit by car

A woman was knocked over by a hit and run driver as she tried to escape an assault in Chatham.

The attack took place in Bryant Street in the early hours of the morning, when the woman was punched in the face by a man she had met in town.

Investigating officer PC Alex Foster said: "The woman had met two men earlier in the evening. Sometime between half past midnight and 1am one of the men punched her in the face several times.

"She ran off towards New Road with the intention of flagging down a passing car and calling for help, but we believe she was hit by a vehicle which failed to stop."

The woman was found in the road by an ambulance crew and was taken to hospital.

She suffered bruises to her face, a chipped cheekbone and a scratch to her collarbone in the attack, which happeend on Sunday, May 17.

PC Foster said: "The two men were both in their late 30s and were clean-shaven, of average build with short blond or mousey-coloured hair.

"They both had local accents.

'We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Bryant Street and New Road areas of Chatham that night and saw either the assault or the hit and run.

"The victim spent five days in hospital recovering from her injuries and I am keen to trace the offenders. I urge anyone with information to call."
