Justin Edinburgh had no complaints about the defeat to Bolton.
He admitted his side were not up to the levels of their hosts.
Report: Bolton Wanderers 4 Gillingham 0
He said: “Bolton were worthy of the victory. They were the better side.
“Sometimes you can scrutinise and analyse your own players, and we will be disappointed, but they were too much, physically and quality times at times. We couldn’t cope and deal with it.
“There was some good movement and some good players there but they are where they are for a reason. They are a good side.
“Our players gave their all, decisions on the ball at times weren’t where we’ve been and we’ve been truly punished.”
The Gills showed some promising signs at the start of the second half but they were already two goals down by then.
Edinburgh said: “The spirit and endeavour are there but not enough quality and not able to break a back line that are good at keeping clean sheets.
“I am not sure they have lost a game at home this season. It is a tough place to go.
“The scoreline is disappointing, you don’t like to lose.
"Maybe we had a go second half and if maybe we got a goal back we could have made a better contest of it but unfortunately goals in the second half came from our possession, wrong decisions, and they have capitalised, broken us and hurt us.”
Gillingham had gone into the game after being out of action for the previous two weekends.
Edinburgh said: “We probably wouldn’t have wanted a two-week break after winning three of our last four matches but it is what it is, we knew about it, we dealt with it and there are no excuses from myself.”
