Chatham Town assistant manager Peter Hawkins hopes new arrivals will pay dividends in Ryman League Division 1 North

Chatham Town’s management are hoping the flurry of new signings can make them sparkle.

Former Crystal Palace youngster Matt Parsons is set to make his debut on Saturday at Redbridge.

Kieran McCann returned to the club in time to feature in last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Ware while another former player, Gary Tilley, could play this weekend after stepping up his fitness levels.

Chats have also added midfielder Joe Bingham from Redhill and assistant boss Peter Hawkins said: “We were looking for extra quality and these lads will bring it. We lacked quality in front of goal and out wide.”

Parsons, who can play on either foot, is a player Hawkins is looking forward to seeing in action.

“He’s got good feet, good pace and plenty of energy,” said Chats’ No.2. He has played at a good level and will add good experience.”

With players coming in, others have left. Kane Phillip and Craig Hewitt have been told to find football elsewhere.

Hawkins said: “We have had a bit of a shake-up and when players are not doing it, then they have to make way for others to come in.

“Those who have left are good lads but at the moment they are not producing consistently and it’s best if they look elsewhere for football.”

Tilley was signed last week but wasn’t fit enough to take part. That may soon change. He could well get thrown in at the deep end,” said the assistant boss.

“We need to start winning games and he’s been there before. He’s experienced and can be a big help.”

Chats will be without Richard Davies for two to three weeks after he suffered a hamstring strain last Saturday.

Weekend opponents Redbridge are two places and one point behind Chats in Ryman League, Division 1 North in 21st position.

Hawkins said: “It’s a key match. We picked up a good point on Saturday but were disappointed it was not three.

“Hopefully, we can build on that result. We must start beating the teams around us. If we don’t beat these teams we’ll be looking over our shoulder.”
