Gillingham Football Club auction off part of a broken sign from their Priestfield stadium and it went for big money

It’s a big E and it’s generated hundreds of pounds for the Gills.

The club finally replaced their broken E at the top of the Rainham End last week, hiring a cherry picker to help with the job.

But instead of binning the bent letter, the club’s sales team put it up for auction.

Gillingham fans were quick to jump in with bids for the E, which swiftly edged past the £300 barrier. The bidding increased during the club’s sportsman’s dinner last Thursday night.

More on the Gills;

Former footballer Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock was the guest of honour at Priestfield. To some, he is now better known for his appearances on shows such as I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Big Brother.

More recently he was a finalist in Celebrity Masterchef 2019.

The winning bid for the broken E was a staggering £500.

It’s not known for certain whose wayward shot caused the damage to the Rainham End E but it’s thought it may well have been former midfielder Michael Flynn, now manager of Newport County.

He was known for scoring some fine goals from distance but miscued on that occasion.
