Welling United 5 Gillingham 0: Young Gills team concede five at Park View Road

A young Gillingham team were well beaten by National League South Welling United on Monday night.

The Gills management decided against sending a first team squad to Park View Road, despite the loss of the game against Stevenage on Saturday to bad weather.

Aaron Cosgrave scored twice for the Wings, both in the second half.

Josh Oyinsan gave Welling the lead, evading several tackles before slotting home. Adam Coombes headed home the second goal on 18 minutes and that’s the way it stayed until the break.

Cosgrave made it three with 10 minutes of the second half played, firing home after winning the ball in the box.

Anthony Cook scored a fourth after pouncing on a loose ball, following a Charlie Walker save, and Cosgrove got his second of the night to make it 5-0 with just a few minutes left.

Included in the Gills team were pros Henry Woods, Josh Rees, Bradley Stevenson and Roman Campbell, along with Ben Allen, who had been involved with the first team in recent games. Trialist striker Norman Wabo also played the full game.

Gillingham: Walker, Scarlett (Hards 85mins), Baker, Nelson (Lintott 46mins), Witt (Lamb 55mins), Woods, Rees (Laing 83mins), Stevenson, Allen (Bancroft 62mins), Campbell, Wabo. Subs not used: Leach, Maher.
