Skipper Doug Loft felt the Gills were unlucky to leave Fleetwood empty-handed on Saturday.

Loft was one of several players to try his luck at goal as the Gills sought to make amends for conceding with less than three minutes on the clock.

“We were disappointed (to concede early),” said Loft, who was back in the side after serving a three game suspension.

“We were all thinking we were going to get something but to concede early is disappointing. It was a silly goal and we have to do better. Everyone in the box has to do better and we can’t be conceding that early.

“That goal put us on the back foot straight away. It’s disappointing and the lads are heartbroken. In the first half we dominated the game, we had all the chances and the ball but we have to do better.

“I was angry because we conceded but I felt we had enough on the pitch to get back into the game.

“A lot of it is down to luck. We haven’t had that luck infront of goal. I think Cody (McDonald) looked sharp and on another day he could have come away with two or three goals.

“We will go away and look at it this week but it was disappointing as we had a lot of fans who travelled up and we let the manager down.

“We were okay first half but second half we should have done better and got something from the game. It’s disappointing but there are positives to take.”
