Gillingham sign Watford's Swedish international goalkeeper Pontus Dahlberg on loan for the remainder of the season

Gillingham have signed a Swedish international keeper ahead of caretaker manager Steve Lovell's first match back in charge.

Pontus Dahlberg, 22, links up with the second-bottom Priestfield outfit for the rest of the season following the departure of Jamie Cumming this week, with the former England youth international swiftly signing for MK Dons.

Dahlberg had been on loan with Doncaster but parent club Watford have recalled him to allow Pontus to join Gills. It is not yet clear if he will be available for this weekend's League 1 match against Burton.

Dahlberg made 18 appearances for basement boys Doncaster, having arrived on loan in the summer, but fell out of favour.

However, he was between the sticks in October when midfielder Stuart O’Keefe claimed the winner as Gillingham beat Doncaster 1-0.

He will now compete with Aaron Chapman for the No.1 jersey at Gillingham.

His full Sweden debut came during a 1-1 draw against Estonia in a friendly in 2018.
